there
is no elevator speech for my book. that what's more important is that i wrote
it hoping that all the ways that nature is integrated into our lives are ways
that I show in the book. that the book is a grown-up fable of sorts; that it's
based on real events; it's about birds mostly and people and how we're made
from the same stuff as all of wildlife, rivers, the air and winds. my
hope too is that those that work to help nature, that work to sustain it and
protect it, that those who love and appreciate it, will somehow take some good
energy from the book.
there's
not one elevator in the book. if there is then it's about the tree that takes
water up and down it's trunk, by the ton, if not tons. and this is
largely a small part of the book; although there might be another elevator
in the book, about the salt marsh water going up and down the reeds. and all of
that might be because for decades i had a serial dream about elevators going
awry and traveling from one building in downtown Newark to the next; and often
moving horizontally, and then i get why some people are afraid of
elevators. and it’s about saying thanks to everyone taking part, no
matter where you have a hand in helping our world. she's a beauty. i'm
grateful. this is about love. i hope that comes across.
